Abstract

The Baduy traditional agro-forestry systems have been under risks of disappearing, due to increasing opulation pressure on land, market penetration, and environmental events, including the 1997 El Niño induced drought. The traditional practices of the Baduys in responding various environmental and socio-economic changes remains resilient and plays an important role in maintaining their cultural identity. The traditional agroforestry and swidden cultivation are of special importance and this study shows that Baduys maintain a strong level of traditional practices, despite the impact of various socio-economic and environmental changes.
